An article posted on IGN, shows that apparently a trademark has been filed in Japan by Sony on a new PS Vita. The design looks to be the same though as pointed out in the IGN article, a NeoGAF user make a note that there could be the addition of an HDMI port, a much desired request of the PS Vita community.
See the IGN link for full details.
While the overall design looks basically the same as the Vita 2000 (aka “Vita Slim”), the addition of an HDMI port alone wouldn’t necessarily make me jump to the front of the line to purchase one. While my “fat” Vita still works flawlessly, just having the ability to connect to an external video source and/or do livestreaming from the Vita isn’t going to sway me. This new Vita would need a few more things, namely integrated storage, or outright abandonment of the PSVita’s proprietary memory cards for something more widespread like the Micro SD card. Additional shoulder buttons would be nice so that it has a L1 L2, R1 and R2 buttons, even if they’re smaller. The “virtual” buttons via the back touch panel just aren’t effective when it comes to fast paced games, and I’d hope they at least address that via the handheld’s design.
What do you think? If it was the same device but with HDMI support, would that be enough to sway you to pick up a new one? Let us know in the comments or tweet us!
