Augmented Empire, the cyberpunk-meets-RPG VR game will launch on Samsung Gear VR (powered by Oculus) on July 13th, 2017. It’s exclusive to the Samsung Gear VR, which provides a really low price point for a VR experience if you have one of the compatible Samsung Phones (i.e. Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+).
The game takes place in a neo-noir city called New Savannah. The city is divided by a Citizen Grade System (i.e. a class based system) which leaves the fancy elites at the lap and height of luxury and putting the outliers, criminals and mischiefs at the less than exciting depths of the island. From your hideout, you will control a team of six characters in a world rendered as ‘augmented reality’ and also interact within your hideout to look into new developments, make calls, and ultimately develop and increase the skillset of each character as you progress through the game.
Gamepad and Gear VR Controller support.
10+ hours of gameplay across 26 missions, combining exploration and turn-based action.
Cyberpunk story featuring 6 upgradable characters and 60 environments.
Full voice cast including:
Kate Mulgrew ( Star Trek Voyager)
Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz)
Doug Cockle (The Witcher series)
Garrick Hagon (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Horizon: Zero Dawn)
I had an opportunity to check this game out back at PAX East earlier this year, and was really impressed by the concept and gameplay. The game has a really nice flow and combat and exploration paired nicely as you traversed obstacles and elements within each area. The story felt developed and I wanted to know more about characters stories and where they were coming from, but you’re obviously going to have to play the game to find out.
It will be available to buy on the Samsung Gear VR store on July 13th 2017 for $9.99, £7.99 and €9.99.
